5. Juli 2023
Bavaria has a new festival. Südwind wants to stir up dust, refresh and blow new ideas into the state. Every two years, it is hosted by a different Bavarian theater. It brings a selection of worthwhile theater performances from all over the country to the Schauburg and the Münchner Kammerspiele. From 5. to 11. July 2023!
Why are these remarkable? Because they are experimental, thought-provoking, surprising, startling and delightful. And who decides what is the best from Bavaria? Theater professionals and young people are involved in the selection process. The selection of the best is also intended to inspire and spur on theater-making for young audiences in the state. That's why we also invite an international guest performance that dares a new form of theater for young audiences. Südwind sees itself as a festival for children, young people and their adults. It is intended to serve as a forum for exchange and further education for theater makers. Workshops, talks and parties frame the program and invite audience and artists to meet and learn from each other.
It is no coincidence that the Schauburg is hosting the 2nd edition of the festival in the 70th year of its existence and, with its focus on "Next Steps", is asking the question of the future of theater for young audiences: What does it mean today to meet our young audiences at eye level? What perspectives and spaces do we open up to children and young people, and what role do they themselves play in the further development of their theaters? What issues are burning on our minds together? With what new formats do we challenge ourselves and our young audiences? And last but not least: How can we use digitization artistically and in our outreach work to reach new target groups without barriers?
We can't do it alone! We are happy that the Münchner Kammerspiele and the Otto Falckenberg Schule are at our side as cooperation partners for SÜDWIND.
