Inge Engel

Dance performer, choreographer, lecturer, body coach

She began dancing in theater more than 60 years ago. After studying sports, politics, sociology, and social psychology, she took part in one of the first trainings in biodynamic body psychotherapy and massage.

Since then, as a freelancer, she has developed her own form of “body coaching” for individual work and “kompeTanzen”, a dance and movement practice with groups. What is meant is a dance that moves the whole person beyond the body alone.

Since 2006, she has been performing for audiences again. She creates and stages dance performances on socio-political themes and visual art, preferably in public space, in nature, and at special locations. She has experience in several dance methods, including several years with Butoh dance. Improvisation and performance using facial expression are especially important to her. Humor also plays a role. Her dance is often described as expressive.

In 2015, she took part in the Open Studios at Tanztendenz, where she also had a research residency. In 2019, she received a scholarship from the cultural department on the topic of “female dancers over 40,” which she continues to work on.

The focus of her work is researching how movement, body, feeling, thinking, language, places, political action, and lived experience interact, and how this can be expressed artistically.
