Alfredo Zinola
Choreographer, Performer
Alfredo Zinola is a choreographer and performer living in Cologne and Munich. He graduated from the University of Turin with a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology - Intercultural Communication and studied Modern Dance at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen.
His main artistic focus is the production of contemporary dance pieces for young audiences. In doing so, he wants to push the boundaries of what a performance for children can be, and he wants to question the relationship between society and childhood. Zinola's work seeks to create a consistent and uncompromising experience between the audience and the performers, and his work is also based on collaborations with other artists: with Felipe Gonzàlez he developed PRIMO (2013), a contemporary underwater dance performance set in a pool on stage. With Maxwell McCarthy he created NERO (2015), a performance about darkness, and PARTY (2016), which questions the interaction between dancer and audience in the context of a party. With Ameri Ximena he created ATO (2014), a site-specific performance in a private apartment of a family, and Bomba mix (2015), a piece about species-related stereotypes and marketing strategies. His work PELLE (2019) is a participatory performance that focuses on bodies and proximity on both a visual and conceptual level. In 2016, he was named a "Dance Hopeful" by Dance magazine.
His most recent works are the solo "200 ways" (2021) and "Other World" (2020) a dance piece specifically designed for a school classroom.
Since 2019 he has received basic funding from the City of Munich and in the same year he is also taking part, as a student, in the curating course in the scenic arts at the University of Salzburg.
For 2020 to 2022 he is Factory Artist at Tanzhaus nrw Düsseldorf.
His latest works are the dance piece "THINGS at the End of the World" and a new collective project with McCarthy and Kühn about ecology and art: Punctures.
