Lulu Obermayer
Choreographer, Performer
Lulu Obermayer works at the intersection of performance, opera, theatre, and choreography. In her works, she combines theatre and opera history with autobiographical settings and explores questions of agency, representation, and representability on stage. The European canon serves as a starting point for her to shift dominant narratives and make invisible perspectives visible.
At the end of February 2026, her new work Schwester premiered at HochX (Munich). For 2026, premieres of Gretchenfrage at the Wiener Festwochen and KÖNIGIN(NEN) at the Bavarian State Opera are also planned. In 2025, she developed the performance Rachel und ich, which was shown, among other places, at HochX, Theater Rampe, and the Sophiensæle, and was awarded the audience prize at the festival radikal jung. In the same year, she realized Kantate, a site-specific work in the Nuremberg church St. Egidien. Her works also include Lulu, Agoraphobia, and (a kind of) Requiem (all 2023). Obermayer studied in New York, at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and at the HZT Berlin. Her works have been presented internationally, including at Steirischer Herbst, at Theater Neumarkt Zurich, and at the Münchner Kammerspiele.
